My Lima
There’s an instant sense of familiarity when I look out my window of my apartment in Lima— the vastness of the ocean, sometimes calm and glassy, other times wild and loud. It always feels alive, a living presence that reminds me of my homeland. The landscapes couldn’t be more different. A coastal capital built on sand, gazing endlessly toward its natural counterpart, Lima carries its own idiosyncrasy, shaped by geography — Yet after many years here, I’ve come to consider Lima my second home.
My morning coffee has become a quiet ritual of mindfulness. I stand on the balcony, watching surfers in the distance, waiting for the perfect wave, my day begins with that same small rush of energy — steady, familiar, alive.
As a designer, my inspiration gravitates toward nature, art, craft, and the people connected to them. These sources of energy nurture the soul in infinite ways. Yet, as a human being, I’ve also acknowledge my own perspective on the world around me and so even the notoriously loud traffic of this city now resonates differently — no longer as noise, but as the pulse of its dwellers, a rhythm of urban vibrancy all its own.
“The MATTHILDUR Autumn/Winter 25/26 collection draws inspiration from a city in perpetual motion. In the pace of contemporary life, versatility has become a necessity rather than a choice.
