El Silencio, a house on the edge of the sea in Punta Hermosa, Peru.
I have the pleasure of finally introducing a very special place I envisaged with my partner years ago, when we first imagined the desirable possibility of creating not only our home away from home by the Pacific Ocean but an expression of aesthetic minimalism that spoke to us.
El Silencio, the architectural oasis conceived by David Mutal, a renown Peruvian architect, is just a few miles outside of Lima, away from the hussle and bustle of the metropolitan landscape, sunken into the sandy cliff side. The main construction accommodates a living space that primes openness in character: light, air and the spectacle of nature, participating in the making of the habitat, and this in return becoming a private appreciation of the wilderness of natural agents.
Earlier this year, when the time came to choose the location for the MATTHILDUR AUTUMN WINTER photoshoot I immediately thought of my recently inaugurated beach house as the perfect backdrop to the mood of the collection, inspired by harmonious balance and lightness of movement.
I hope the images convey the airy atmosphere of the sea breeze, agitating the supple fabrics or the warmth of the natural light, creating a dramatic contrast with the shadows on the deck.
For the looks shot in interiors, I relied on the contribution of few designer´s furniture pieces to allow the photographer to focus on the materials and textures, the quiet luxury of the designs. Again, an exercise of balance between openness and calm, organic and sophisticated craft permeated by natural light and an exquisite choice of color.
There is an immense sense of satisfaction in delivering this collection to our clients and followers when the images provide a feeling reflecting my design mission. Nature is unmistakably MATTHILDUR´s greatest source of inspiration and so is human creativity, when it molds its presence ingeniously and respectfully in shapes and forms of contemporary design. Enjoy!
